Vacation 2008 - Day Six - 0 Miles

We had another great day, except for one distraction. We had another flat tire! It took 2 hours out of our day but it happened after the main attractions of the day (Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse). I am a little suspicious of the second flat. We could not find any nails as it was an inch long 'gash" near the trend. The tire repairman said that could of happened if it had been driven with low pressure. However, I had just checked the pressure 2 days before and I had no indication that is was low when we came out of Mt. Rushmore and drove to Crazy Horse. Anyway, Derek's GPS found is a tire repair shop and we drove straight there. We got a new tire then continued on to Cosmos Mysteries and dinner. Luckily, changing both flats were in great weather, level ground and not on a busy highway.

We started the day with a trip to Mt. Rushmore. It has changed a great deal since I went in 1982. They have new viewing areas, museum, and a 1/2 mile walk to the base of the mountain called "presidential trail". They are just amazing and watching how they did it is just fascinating.

After lunch, we went to Crazy Horse. It is also beautiful but its progress is slow. There did not seem to be many differences from when I was there in 1982 to today. The face was done and there was lots of shaping of the mountain.

Our final stop of the day was to Cosmos Mysteries. It is a little sideshow place with some weird visual illusions. It was short but fun. Our young guide was playing up the "spooky" powers but he deemed a few of us in the group has his "Skeptics". It was not hard to figure out the "trick". The rooms are disorienting so trying to balance/walk uphill is difficult. One note about the pictures is that the kids are not swinging. They are leaning under the pull of gravity as the room is built sloping.

Tomorrow we head out to Devil's Tower Wyoming and Montana.
